Ravens Report- Week 6 2008

Ravens Report
Last Sunday, the Ravens lost to the undefeated Tennessee Titans, 13-10. Ravens K Matt Stover hit a 38-yard field goal to give the Ravens an early 3-0 lead. Then, Titans K Rob Bironas hit a 35-yard field goal to tie the game up at three and head into halftime. Then, the Ravens took a 10-3 lead on a 1-yard touchdown run by FB Le’Ron McClain. Then, in the 4th quarter, Rob Bironas hit a 26 yard field goal to make the score 10-6 with about thirteen minutes left in the fourth quarter. Then, with four minutes left in the fourth, Titans QB Kerry Collins hit TE Alge Crumpler in the end zone for an 11-yard touchdown to give the Titans a 13-10 lead. Then, Ravens QB Joe Flacco got intercepted to give the Titans the win.
Player of the Game: Titans TE Bo Scaife- 7 catches, 72 yards
Next Sunday, the Ravens head to Indianapolis to face the 2-2 Colts. Colts Head Coach Tony Dungy has never lost to the Ravens. The Colts offense hasn’t done well so far this season, with star QB Peyton Manning the 20th rated passer in the league, and RB Joseph Addai is averaging just 54 yards per game. They will have a tough time today as they face the best ranked defense in the NFL. The Colts type of defense includes few blitzes, which works well with Ravens rookie QB Joe Flacco. I have the Colts winning, 21-13.
Suggestion: So far this season, the Ravens have been a first half team. They have played great in the first half, then they’d fall apart in the second. The Ravens need to be on their game in both halves.

Your suggestion ("The Ravens need to be on their game in both halves.") gets to the core of the Ravens' difficulties. It's as if they lack confidence, as if, at game's end, they don't believe they can win. This also of course reflects a serious coaching problem with the team unable to recognize and make halftime adjustments. And it's especially heartening given the great halftime adjustments the Ravens made against the Browns leading to their 28-10 second-half win. Could be the young QB + young head coach = hard times ahead.
