Ravens Report

Last week the Ravens won a nail-biter against the Cardinals, 26-23. This improves the Ravens record to 2-1. The Ravens got on the board first with a 21-yard field goal by K Matt Stover. Then in the 2^nd quarter, Matt Stover hit a 28-yard field goal (the field goal puts him into 5^th place on the NFL’s all-time scoring list with 1,737). Then the Cardinals got on the board with a 48-yard field goal from K Neil Rackers. The Ravens then scored a touchdown on a 13-yard pass from QB Steve McNair to WR Derrick Mason. After a 75-yard return for a touchdown by Yamon Figurs the score at halftime was Ravens 20, Cardinals 3. After two field goals by both kickers the score at the end of 3 quarters was Ravens 23, Cardinals 6. That’s when the Cards got going. They brought in veteran QB Kurt Warner to try and lead the Cardinals back into the game. He did just that. It started with a 5-yard touchdown pass from Warner to WR Anquan Boldin. Then Warner threw another touchdown pass to Boldin, this time 32 yards. Neil Rackers then sank a 41-yard field goal to tie up the game at 23 with 1:50 left on the clock. Ravens Head Coach Brian Billick decided to put backup QB Kyle “Butterfingers” Boller in the game. The Ravens drove down the field, all they needed was a field goal to win. The Ravens then brought in Stover to win the game. Stover hit the 46-yard field goal to win the game! This was Stover’s 13^th career game-winning field goal.

Next Sunday the Ravens take on the Cleveland Browns in Cleveland. The Ravens defense will face former Ravens RB Jamal Lewis. The Ravens are trying to win their first division game and their first road game against the Browns. Last year the Ravens beat the Browns in Cleveland 15-14 on a game-winning field goal by K Matt Stover. The Ravens usually play better against the Browns at home, but they still seem to prevail somehow. The Browns are a solid team, it should be a good game, but the Ravens hopefully will be able to win.

Suggestion: The Ravens have got to start toughening up on defense in the 4^th quarter. In, both of the Ravens wins, they have played poorly on defense in the 4^th quarter.

Ravens Report-Week 3

Ravens Report

The Ravens beat the Jets last Sunday, 20-13. Both backup QB’s started (Ravens QB Kyle Boller, Jets QB Kellen Clemens) for both teams. The first points of the game were a 2-yard pass from Ravens QB Kyle Boller to RB Willis McGahee for a TD. Late in the 2^nd quarter with the score 10-3 and the Ravens in the lead, Boller threw a TD pass to Todd Heap to give the Ravens a 17-3 lead at the half. With 3:12 left in the 4^th quarter, and the score now 20-6, Kellen Clemens threw a TD pass to Jets WR Chris Baker to make the score 20-13. After the Jets Defense forced the Ravens to a 3-and-out, the Jets had a chance to tie up the game with less than 2 minutes left in regulation. After a dropped pass in the end zone by Jets WR Justin McCareins, Kellen Clemens threw an INT to Ravens LB Ray Lewis to end the game.

Next Sunday the Ravens will face the Cardinals at home. Last week the Cardinals upset the Seahawks with a close victory. This game should be a nice challenge for the Ravens. The Ravens are going to have to give it their all if they want to win. The Cardinals have a pretty well balanced team with QB Matt Leinart, RB Edgerrin James, TE Leonard Pope and WRs Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin. They really only have problems on defense, so the Ravens have to take advantage of that. I expect that the Ravens win a nail-biter.
